Garden Grove: Brodard Restaurant

There’s certain restaurants who’s fame and recognition is based on 1 item. For example, in Orange County, if you want Viet-Canjun seafood in a bag, people compare other restaurants to The Boiling Crab. For Vietnamese spring rolls people compare other places to Brodard.img_5795

Brodard is located inside the Mall of Fortune, an Asian plaza located off Westminster and Brookhurst. They have a back entrance, or, enter off Westminster and the restaurant is behind the 85 degree Bakery.

Brodard serves all sort of Vietnamese food, from noodles to crepes to curry.. but they are most famous for their vietnamese spring rolls. They offer many types but I was told the 2 top ones are:

– Nem Nöôùng Cuoán, Pork Spring Roll – grilled pork sausage wrapped in rice paper with lettuce, cucumber, carrots, cilantro, chives, daikon & mint served with house special sauce

– Goûi Cuoán Toâm & Thòt, Fresh Shrimp & Pork Spring Roll – Steamed shrimp & pork wrapped in rice paper with vermicelli, lettuce, chives, mint & bean sprouts, served with plum sauce

My favorite is the Pork Spring Roll, so I stopped by on a Thursday afternoon to pick up an order. The orders come in 3 rolls for $5.25, or 4 rolls for $7.00. I was meeting Karen up later today for an early dinner, so I chose the 3 pack, and placed my order at 11:56 pm.

To the right side of the cashier, you can spy a line of 5 or 6 workers, who’s only job is to make these delicious spring rolls. Even though they have an assembly line of people cranking out these rolls, it still took about 15 minutes to get my food.

I devoured the spring rolls and could have eaten 3 more. This light, refreshing item was perfect for a hot summer afternoon. It was worth the wait!
