We end our day by visiting a papyrus store. We were not allowed to take photos of the store (I’m guessing so no one copies their work) but we were allowed to take photos of the demonstration.
The woman showed us the papyrus reeds and how she skinned the plant for the inside. The plant is not wasted, as the outside is used to make baskets or mats.
The reeds are soaked, cross crossed, then pressed in that black presser, then dried. In about 2 weeks, you get paper. The longer you press it, the darker the paper gets (is what I interpreted).
