Amazon Fresh is opening brick and mortar versions of their online grocery store. The first location is in Woodland Hills, California, and on October 22, 2020, the second location opened up in Irvine, California.
We went to the Irvine location, located at 13672 Jamboree Road. Its in the Marketplace and used to be a Babies R Us.
We decided to use the Dash Cart, a computerized shopping cart that allows me to scan purchases using my cart. The cart is weight sensitive and designed for smaller purchases. Those who are shopping for a group can use the regular shopping cart, and check out with a cashier.
We started off by logging in using our Amazon app. The cart will use the card on file to charge the groceries.
To purchase produce, key in the PUC code listed in the information card of the item. Then, add the product in the cart. The cart will weigh the item and display the as amount on the screen.
To add all other purchases, simple add it to the cart, making sure one of the 4 camera captures the barcode.
The store had a good selection of everything, from produce, meats, essentials and packaged foods.
If there are any discounts, the cart will automatically calculate the amount. For example, the chicken breast was on sale. I simply added the package to the cart.
When we were ready to leave, everything was already tabulated. I just had to have the Amazon Fresh employee help me close my grocery account. Then I was done!
If you prefer to use a cashier, they have that, too. The Dash Cart is merely a convenient way to shop, especially when you’re in a rush.
Amazon Fresh is planning on 6 locations in Southern California. Woodland Hills, Irvine, Fullerton, Whittier, Long Beach, N. Hollywood, and looking to opening up in the Chicago area.
