Dinner at Boudin Bakery for #NoKidHungry

September is #NoKidHungry month, where thousands of restaurants are participating to end childhood hunger across the United States. I wanted to show my support by dining at the restaurants who are giving back. Boudin’s was participating, so I stopped after work at the MainPlace Mall location in Santa Ana for dinner, and to also donate toward this super worthy cause.

Boudin Bakery in Santa Ana, CA

Who or what is Boudin Bakery?

If you are not familiar with Boudin Bakery, it is a bakery based in San Francisco who is famous for the “San Francisco Sourdough French bread”.  Established in 1849 by Isidore Boudin from France, the company was sold in 1941 to Steven Giraudo, an artisan baker who worked at the Boudin company. The company was sold a few times after that, before 2 of Giraudo’s sons bought it back.  The bakery has locations all over California, including inside Disney’s California Adventure, and still uses the starter yeast that was used during the California Gold Rush.

I wanted something light, and being it was #NoKidHungry, I ordered the kid’s grilled cheese sandwich, which came with either applesauce or a cookie (I chose the healthier option), and a drink.  Karen got a bowl of their Butternut Squash soup, that came with one of their famous sourdough dinner rolls.  In addition, I added the $5 coupon book.

The coupon book itself wasn’t that impressive.  They offered a free loaf of bread, mostly free items with purchase, such as a free coffee or kid’s meal with purchase, or a BOGO soup.  The benefit of giving back is why I purchased the book, and said that 100% of my donation will go toward #NoKidHungry. That outweighed the value of the coupon book.

In America, 1 in 5 children struggle with hunger. This September, Boudin Bakery is proud to join restaurants nationwide to support No Kid Hungry® by raising funds in their restaurants. Throughout the month of September, Boudin will be offering guests a valuable coupon book – worth over $25 – for their donation of only $5. This savings-packed coupon book will feature many of Boudin’s all-time favorite items, including a free loaf of The Original San Francisco Sourdough Bread™. 100 percent of all money raised will be donated to No Kid Hungry®.
