It’s OC Restaurant Week (OCRW) 2017 and each year Linda, Anna and I get together for at least one OCRW restaurant. It’s our way to catch up and to make time for lunch. This year we chose Seasons 52 located at the South Coast Plaza, and it was a hit.
The OCRW Lunch Menu was a 3 course meal, consisting of a starter (soup or a flatbread for 2 to share), an entree and a petite dessert. Some restaurants offer a tasting version of their menu, but not Seasons 52. Their OCRW portions were full sized starters and entree portions, making this lunch an incredible value at $20.
My girlfriends chose to share the Garlic Pesto Chicken flatbread, while I went with a cup of the Potato Leek soup, topped with bacon and chives. The flatbread was pretty filling, and Anna said she was already full from the starter.
The entrees came out after a bit of a wait. Linda had the Signature Burger that was served with a Season 52 variation of potato salad. Unfortunately the burger was well done, when she asked for medium rare. She wasn’t pleased with it, but was so hungry, she ate it anyway.
Anna had the Roasted Half Chicken, that came with mashed potatoes and sauteed vegetables. She gave that plate a thumbs up, and even took home half her meal. Meanwhile, I had the Woodgrilled Boneless Rainbow Trout, served with crushed potatoes, and heritage carrots. The carrots were a bit al dente for my taste, and they also had a funky odor to them. I wasn’t a fan of the vegs. Other than that, the meal was excellent.
For dessert we had a choice of many petite desserts, where Anna chose the Cheesecake made of Goat Cheese, Linda had the Macchiato, and I settled for the Key Lime Pie, which was too sweet for me (so Anna scored a second dessert).
With our drinks (which our server did an excellent job of bringing fresh refills), the check came to $70. This could have easily been a 5 star review, as the $20 OCRW was worthy of such praise. Unfortunately, the long wait to be seated, even with reservations, the wait time between the starter and entree, and the well done burger knocked it to a strong 4 star experience.
