There’s nothing more exciting like the post season. It doesn’t matter what sport you root for, the post season is the road to the championship, and the quest to win the trophy. For hockey, our season (including post season) is about 9 months, as long as a pregnancy. From October to April, the fans watch their team play during the regular season.
Thirty teams jockey for position during those 7 months, hoping to clinch a playoff spot as a reward for their hard work. Eight teams from the West and the East will make it to the next round. For the 2016-17 season, the Anaheim Ducks made it to the next round, and our first opponent is the Calgary Flames.
Game Day
The first game was on Thursday, and every fan in attendance received an orange Let’s Go Ducks shirt and a towel. There were post season merchandise on sale, and even a charity “Lucky Ducky” event. For $10 you can buy a “mystery” rubber ducky, and if there is a gold sticker under the duck, you win that prize. I purchased 4 ducks, 2 for me, 2 for Stephen. I got zilch, but Stephen won an autographed puck and an autographed photo.
Rather than walking around the arena, we headed up to our seats early. Towels were already at our seat location, and we took that opportunity to take a few photos.
At 7:30 pm, the pre-game show started, and then the puck dropped.
The Ducks scored first, and then Calgary tied it up, then scored another goal. The Ducks were able to tie the score, and later scored the go-ahead goal, which would eventually help win the game with a score of 3-2. Click here for the NHL breakdown of the game.
The Ducks win Game 1, but we still need to win 3 more games before going to round 2. To win the Stanley Cup, the team must win 16 games, and each round is the best of 7 games. Let’s Go Ducks!
