Costa Mesa, CA: Casa Barilla

In 2013, Barilla, the makers of the dried pasta and canned sauces opened a fast-casual restaurant in New York City, near Radio City Music Hall. In November 2017, they opened a west coast location in South Coast Plaza, on the ground level below the popular Din Tai Fung.

At first glance, the restaurant did not look busy. Hesitantly, we went to take a look at the menu located above the cashier’s station. They had pasta (of course) as well as salads and personal sized pizzas. After 3:00, they offered La Spaghettata, a family style platter for 2 or 4 people.  The price point was fair, and so Karen and I decided to split the Tagliatelle and Bolognese sauce.  We placed our order at the cashier, was handed a number and said they’ll bring it to our table.

The portion was generous, and the pasta was cooked al dente.  I really enjoyed the meal, and was not surprised that we finished the entire entrée.  Even though there’s plenty of other pasta places nearby, I’d come back for a bowl of pasta, or even try their pizza.
