Who or what is Sparks?
Sparks is the greatest band you’ve never heard of – BBC
Sparks is a band based in Los Angeles, founded by brothers Ron and Russell Mael. They’ve been around since the 1970’s, have over 25 albums, and last year was featured in a documentary/musical called “The Sparks Brothers”.

In addition, in 2021, they did a collaboration with director Leos Carax and came out with a musical film called Annette, which won awards at Cannes and the Cesar, the French equivalent to the Oscars. It’s currently being shown on Amazon Video.
After watching the Sparks Brothers documentary, I did not realize that I knew their work back in the 80’s. Apparently radio station KROQ played their songs… well when KROQ was playing cutting edge music, but that’s another rant for a different day.

Sparks is currently on tour and kicked off their North American tour at the Walt Disney Concert Hall in downtown Los Angeles. I got tickets for both nights, and it was just amazing.
They had no opening band and played for almost 2 hours. Not bad for 2 guys in their 70s.
