Sunday with Mom

Dating as a 40-something really sucks but finding something to do when your friends are busy is just as depressing. On Saturday, I was supposed to hang out with Jeff.  I thought he knew that too.  Well, somehow I didn’t get the memo that he canceled… as in “no show”, “no communication”…!  It was just a crappy Saturday and the no show was something that I didn’t need.
I was so happy for Saturday to end, and on Sunday, my mom was free and came over. We did the mother-daughter thing.  It was a nice change of pace, something we haven’t done in a while, especially after my breakup.  We started off with breakfast at the Original Pancake House in Yorba Linda.  Then after breakfast, we didn’t know what do to… I suggested seeing a movie, and remembered I had a Groupon for 2 movie tickets plus soda/ popcorn at the Grauman’s Chinese Theater in Hollywood.
We picked the movie “Safety Not Guaranteed”, because it was the only thing I could think my mom would watch.  I wasn’t sure if it was a sci-fi movie or what, but it won some festival award, and I think it was from the people who did “Juno” or “Little Miss Sunshine”.  It was a cute movie about a girl, who worked as an intern at a magazine company in Seattle.  Her boss saw an ad for a time traveling companion, but their “safety was not guaranteed”, hence the movie title.  It was definitely an “Independent” type movie.
We spent time in Hollywood, and walked around Hollywood / Highland.  We didn’t go across the street to the Disney Soda Fountain, even though I really wanted to check out the new merchandise. After the movie, my mom suggested Savoy for dinner, but we didn’t know they were closed on Sundays.  We ended up having Hainan Chicken at a place called Dong Nguyen, which was just ok.  Savoy is still the best for Hainan Chicken in LA!

Thanks, Mom for a great Sunday.  Every girl needs to have her mom – daughter day… and to forget that being an adult tossed back in to the single world really bites ass!
