Feb 22: Northern Trust Open

In addition to this blog, I also blog about food trucks at lookingforfoodtrucks.com. Occasionally I get media passes to check out events, and I was able to get passes to the 2015 Northern Trust Open, a PGA golf tournament in the Pacific Palisades, just west of UCLA.

I am embarrassed to say the only golf name I know is Tiger Woods, Arnold Palmer, and I really have to think about a third name. Fortunately, Stephen is a fan of the sport, and he was amazed that I got these passes for a well known tournament.

18th Hole

Passes for Sunday were easier to get than a Saturday, and I was also thrilled that Nathaniel Nguyen, former food truck and now chef/ owner of Prince and the Pantry was going to be at The Green Room, the hospitality tent I had access to.  In addition, I was also given 4 vouchers for free drinks sponsored by Grey Goose vodka.

After we were done with the Green Room, we wandered around the grounds to watch the various players, checked out the Food Truck area, and then it started to rain. Fortunately we were near the  Mastercard tent, where we stayed until the rain let up.  Since I had a Mastercard, I got free swag, such as a souvenir photo and bag.

The event was drawing to a close, and a huge crowd was gathered at the 18th hole, getting ready for a 3-way tie. As we were leaving for the day, I spied this golfer signing autographs.  I handed Stephen a program and told him to stand in line for the “blue golfer guy”.  Apparently that’s Pro golfer Jim Furyk, a well known golfer at the tournament.

Even though it rained at the end of the day, it was still a very fun event, and we listened to the end of the tournament on the golf channel on XM Sirius radio.
