Santa Ana: Pho Asian Grill

This place is located in Santa Ana, off North Tustin Avenue, between the 22 freeway and 17th Street, just a block away from Benjie’s Deli.

My Vietnamese friend likes coming here because its fairly priced, clean, fast, and they give you a free mung bean dessert. They offer a lunch special for $10.95, which is a choice between:
– a mini bowl of beef phó and a bún (vermicelli) noodle dish and a drink,
– or a big bowl of beef or chicken phó  and 2 egg rolls and a drink.

They also have a sandwich combo for $8.95 or a salad combo for $9.95, which also comes with a small chicken phó and a drink.

We chose the vermicelli (or bún) special.

They start you off with the mini bowl of phó, which really is mini… about the size of a soup bowl.  As soon as you’re done with the soup, they bring out the vermicelli.  It was a very generous bowl of noodles, about 3 ounces of grilled pork, 2 piping hot egg rolls, all on top of a bed of pickled vegetables and lettuce.

After we asked for the check, the waitress brought out our warm mung bean dessert. We were in and out of there within 1/2 hour, and still had time to stop somewhere before heading back to work.

Was it the best Vietnamese food we’ve had? Probably not, but it was quick, decently priced, and portions were also decent.  Lunch for 2 (drinks included) came to $23 and change before tip.
