Heading back to Los Angeles

Our flight back to Los Angeles was at 8:30, and we had to connect from Cairo to Istanbul. The tour company picked us up at 6:15 am, and it took less than 10 minutes to get to the International Terminal.  Our Cairo coordinator, Abdul was there to greet us, and to instruct us where to go once inside.

We had a 2 hour layover in Istanbul. After going through security screening, we had to wait as our gate was not assigned yet.  The airport was packed, and we were lucky to find seats at the bar of a coffee place called Caffe Nero, which is a UK coffee company.  Stephen wanted to have Turkish ice cream, but this was going to have to do.

Security at the Istanbul Airport is tight, and once again we had to go through multiple security checks.  Even at the gate, you have to go through 2 screenings, and you can’t leave the room. If you have to leave, whether its to use the toilet or get a drink, you’ll have to go through the screening process over again.

We finally made it back home, to Los Angeles!  Having Global Entry was a breeze, and it took less than 10 minutes to clear through “customs”.  As you can see, I am too short for the Global Entry camera. The next day, the first thing we did was get some tacos and a huge, 32 ounce soda with lots of ice!

It’s always good to be home!
