Detroit’s People Mover

Great transportation if you’re staying in the Downtown Area without a car! We were staying at the Aloft Detroit at The David Whitney which is centrally located if you want to go to the Comerica Park, Ford Field or the Hockeytown Cafe. We, however, needed to go to the Joe Louis Arena, and for 75 cents was able to take the People Mover to the arena.

On our first night we decided to check out The People Mover to get an idea of the downtown area.  Our hotel was at the Grand Circus Park stop. Unfortunately at night, there’s not a lot to see, so we went back the next day in the daytime with friends.

We took a round trip to see how long the loop takes.  It took about 15 minutes.  Aside from the Joe Louis Arena, this tram also stops at the Renaissance Center where the GM Headquarters is at. Excellent tour and view of the city (its free!), and Greektown where you can check out 1 of the 3 city casinos or get a bite to eat.

Overall, Detroit downtown does not have a lot to do if you don’t have a car to leave the area, especially in the winter. This People Mover really helps out a tourist get around.
