I was given comp’d tickets to see Slayer on Friday, August 4th through the HRC loyalty program “Backstage Pass”. I’ve never been to a show (or a heavy metal concert!) at The Joint, and figured what’s the worse that could happen? Self parking is still free, and since I missed the turn off Harmon, I parked at the structure off Paradise, found a spot on the 2nd level and took the stairs down 1 flight.
The tickets were standing room only in the lower, general admission area. I was prepared for anything, and arrived early (doors opened at 6:00) to stake out a spot. Good thing I did, as I’m a short girl and wanted a good standing room spot. I grabbed the spot on the 1st tier, along the railing. For the most part, I got a decent view of the stage, and if a towering guy stood in front of me, I got the side screens to view the concert at least.
The opening act to the opener started at 7:00 prompt. Behemoth did a great job of pumping up the crowd. They played for about 1/2 hour before changing the set for Lamb of God. More fans trickled in, and the pit got more crowded. The band played for about an hour, and the fans started moshing in the middle.. good thing I had the safety of the 1st tier rail!
For the headliner, Slayer, the Joint curtained the stage, which doubled as a projection screen for the band’s opening number. Slayer played for a good hour and a half maybe 2 hours. We didn’t leave until past 11:00.
Getting out was pretty easy, and people shuffled out onto the casino/ hotel. The venue is intimate, and if you want seats, I’m sure those are great too. My feet still hurt after standing for over 4 hours, but hey they were free so I can’t complain here.
