From Lady Wynd, there’s 2 ways to get to the Edinburgh Castle: across the road from us was a very long sets of stairs leading up to the castle, or follow the road through Greenmarket Street, and head up to the castle gradually. We took the road, which was about a 10-minute walk.
As we approached the Castle, there was a kiosk for those who booked online to collect their tickets. The area in front of the gate was under construction, as they were tearing down the scaffolding and bleachers from the Royal Edinburgh Military Tattoo.
Once inside, I found the area for the free guided tour, which lasted about 1/2 hour. The guide provided a light history of the castle, and interesting points of interests. Afterward, we were on our own to explore.
After the castle, we decided to walk the Royal Mile to the Canongate and Parliament.
