Cajun seafood in a bag… this seems to be “the” way to eat the garlicky crawfish, shrimp and other crustaceans. The Crab Shack is trying to make a name for itself, and they have 3 stores: 2 in Gardena, and 1 in Carson.
Roger and I decided to meet up for dinner on a Monday night, and it got quite busy. Like the competitor, the Kickin Crab, they have a combo menu as well as a la carte menu.
I checked in on Yelp and got an order of the Cajun fries for free, which helped pass the time while we waited for our food. When the food came, the staff twirled the bag and then snipped the excess top of the bag, creating a shallow “bowl”. Next time I’d ask the staff not to cut down the bag, and just tie it up, so I can flip the bag and dig out the bottom food first, before it overcooks. We decided to go a la carte, and got a pound of the live crawfish and 2 pounds of the shrimp (unpeeled) with their “Crab Shack” everything sauce in medium heat… which had just a kick to give it heat. The crawfish was very good, some were even large. The shrimp did get rubbery and soft at the end, as it was getting overcooked. Overall, good food and even at a la carte prices, dinner for 2 with 1 soft drink came to $50 before tip.
