Sedona, AZ: Elote Cafe @elote_cafe

When you visit Sedona, one of the most popular places to eat is Elote. It’s located in the upper part of the town, and reservations are a must.

You can make reservations on their website 90-days ahead, and they fill up fast.

We celebrated Stephen’s birthday and it was terrific. We were welcomed with a bountiful basket filled with tortilla chips and roasted salsa. I could drink that bowl of salsa. It was delicious. Stephen started with a signature margarita, while I stuck with the house water.

For dinner, we started with the signature Elote appetizer, which is corn off the husk, and a blend of garlic, cilantro, chili powder, mayo, and Cotija cheese in the sauce. It’s served with a slice of lime. That final squeeze of lime makes the corn sweet, salty, savory, nutty, creamy, and tart all at once.

I debated between the duck carnitas or the brisket enchiladas. The server suggested the enchiladas. Stephen chose the lamb shank.

Portions are huge, and easy to share. We were so full that we skipped dessert.

While it’s not cheap, it’s definitely a great birthday dinner place. It’s overpriced Mexican food but they add the right spin to it to make it worthwhile.
