Gus’s Fried Chicken was founded in Memphis, Tennessee. It’s one of the original “hot” fried chicken restaurants, with locations all over the United States.

We went to the downtown location, located a few blocks from Beale Street. The place is small but we were lucky to have grabbed the last table by the kitchen (and restroom).

We started with the fried green tomatoes. I had the 2 piece chicken plate, and substituted the default coleslaw for the Mac and cheese. Stephen had the tenders plate with the default sides of beans and coleslaw.

The chicken was not spicy as I thought it would be. It has heat and flavor, but it’s not overwhelming. I’d go back again.
