Day 3: Back to Dublin

Who needs sleep during vacation? As Martin would say, you can sleep when you’re dead.

We started off our day by waking up at 5:00 am to get to the Newcastle International Airport for a 7:55 am flight back to Dublin. Yes, 5:00 am.  Fortunately the Holiday Inn we stayed at had a shuttle, and a driver who was willing to take us to the airport that early.

When we got back to Dublin, we decided to get familiarized with the city by taking the Hop on/ Hop off city bus tour, and went to the Guinness brewery tour… which is actually more like a museum because you never get to see the factory at all. I was very disappointed in the Guinness tour.

Included with the “tour” is a pint of that famous dark beer. We were allowed to walk around the building with the glass, so rather than giving back the empty glass… we kept it.

After the disappointing tour, we had an even more disappointing lunch in the Guinness Restaurant.  Earlier that year, we saw a feature on a Samantha Brown travel show where she ate at the Guinness Restaurant.  Apparently they changed the format, the menu, and the food.

We hopped back on the bus and continued on until 3:00 pm, which we went back to the hotel for a nap and to freshen up for dinner.
