Fullerton: Stadtgarten

Stadtgarten is a place where you can get a sausage and beer, and they serve plenty of both. Don’t come here thinking you’re getting a hot dog. If you’ve been to Wurstküche in LA or Wursthaus in Santa Ana, this is basically the same concept. They’ve got a ton of sausage variety, mostly German variety but some Hungarian, Polish, and so on.

We arrived at 9:00 pm on a Saturday night, and the patio area was full. So after we placed our order, we made our way to the common dining area and grabbed a spot. On the table were 6 huge bottles of mustards and ketchup. Also in the back was a bar, where you can get additional drinks, should your beer glass run dry.

Stephen and I ordered the Nuremberg sausage with bacon bits and spaetzle, and a bratwurst with sauerkraut and caramelized onions to share, while our friends had the currywurst sausage with spaetzle, and a spicy dog with peppers. We each also added an order of frites. Dinner for 4 came to $56 with drinks.

The food was made to order, and took about 15 minutes. Overall they were good, but not fantastic. I’m not sure if it was because I wasn’t as hungry as I thought, or the sausage was a bit overcooked.

The bonus of this location is I won’t have to drive to LA or Santa Ana for our sausage fix. Another bonus is Dripp is located next door, so we popped in there after our meal for a post dinner coffee.  The place is located on the corner of Harbor Blvd and Chapman, sharing the property with Dripp Coffee, behind the Fox Theater. There’s plenty of parking behind the building (adjacent to McDonalds) and you enter through the back as well.
